The end of the year is fast approaching and with the holiday’s right around the corner, it is easy to forget that at the end of the year your health benefits may expiring. Here are some things to remember as we close out 2015:
Most insurance companies have a deadline of December 31st and unfortunately, any unused benefits cannot carried over into the new year. Therefore, any insurance benefit you have not used you will lose!
Most plans cover both the eye exam and optical correction. This means ALL prescription glasses and sunglasses are covered by your plan. In fact, most plans will cover contact lenses and even eyeglass repairs as part of your coverage. We can also direct bill for most plans, which means you won’t have to submit the receipts yourself.
Most people pay a monthly premium for their insurance plan or a portion of their salary has been deducted from their paycheque. This implies that you have already paid indirectly towards your eyecare benefits. Make the most of your plan by maximizing your benefits.
The end of a policy year provides an opportunity for employers and insurance companies to make changes to the benefit provided to patients. These changes often take effect on the renewal date which is January 1st. It is always a good idea to look into your plan to see how much your coverage is and what changes might occur.
