Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)

Save a Trip to Your Family Doctor. See Your Optometrist for Red Eye Instead.

You’ve likely heard of “red eye” or “pink eye” – but the scientific term is conjunctivitis. This eye condition occurs when the conjunctiva – a thin layer covering the surface of the eye and eyelid – becomes inflamed. Depending on the cause, it may be treated with antibiotic eye drops or ointment prescribed by your optometrist.

Request an appointment with Dr. Toor.

How to Detect and Treat Conjunctivitis (Red Eye)

Three Types of Conjunctivitis

Red Eye can be diagnosed and treated by Dr. Toor at Opal Optometry. If you have a bacterial infection, it can be treated with prescription antibiotic eye drops or ointment. Allergic and chemically induced conjunctivitis may be treated with other prescription or non-prescription drops, which can help to resolve the issue and have you feeling better in no time. Viral infections, like the common cold, generally need to recover on their own.

Remember to wash your hands regularly and avoid contact with others to avoid spreading infectious conjunctivitis, which is highly contagious.
